I watched "Palabas at Pamana: Mga Hiyas ng Komedya at Sarsuwela"

Okay, I am taking a short break from Alamat, and today I am going to talk about a show I watched last night. It is called 'Palabas at Pamana: Mga Hiyas ng Komedya at Sarsuwela' or 'Shows and Inheritance: Gems of Musical Plays.' The show explores stories that have been passed down through generations, influenced by foreigners such as the Spaniards or the Americans. It is divided into two parts (but has no breaks).

Story:

The first part is straightforward with one story, and it revolves around two kingdoms (I don't know what or whom they represent, so what you're about to hear is my best guess). One kingdom is of the Spaniards, and the other is of the Persians. They were going to make an alliance or something (I don't really understand Filipino very well yet, so I am just going to take a bit of a guess). The councils of their respective kingdoms were dueling, but unfortunately, one of the royals from the Spanish royal council messed up and killed one of the royals from the Persian side, sparking war between the Persians and the Spaniards. Battles are fought (as seen in the show), and when another battle was about to begin, two people appeared and disappeared. Maybe they were gods or important religious figures, but their appearance was enough to cause an alliance between the two kingdoms (and I suspect it was out of fear, but I don't know).

The second part was kind of all over the place. My mom said each part was like scenes from different musicals. There were lots of duets, and honestly, I didn't get most of it. It wasn't just the language; the second part was a bit confusing.

Personal opinion:

I think the whole show is a pretty good history lesson for youngsters who want to know the great stories of the past. My favorite part was the whole first part because when it comes to stories, I like a straightforward one that you can easily follow. It can be for a broader spectrum of audiences, from middle-aged to old, and especially for younger people. Of course, the actors were great.

Summary:

I think this is a great show. The actors, writers, and choreographers did well. I believe the show was great, even though the second part was a bit janky for me. I think it was written pretty well. The audience I'm targeting is the middle-aged to older ones.

That is it for this short blog. Stay firm, blogsketeers!
